Many people don’t know that they can have a second round of weatherization with insulation through the Utility Energy subsidized programs in both Rhode Island and Massachusetts. I built my house in 2000 and I had RISE come out and do an audit in 2011 and approximately $4,000 of weatherization was done on my home. Eight years later in 2019, RISE came back and did another audit and did thousands more work to bring my home to the current Rhode Island Energy Code standard. In both cases most of the cost was paid by the utility. We have saved money on our energy bill and increased the comfort when living in our home.
The Energy Code changes with the Building Code updates. This happens around every 4-5 years. During the years since I built my home, there have been major changes in technology, method and building products that have opened opportunities to weatherize your home that did not exist 25 years ago.
Calyx is a participating Weatherization Contractor for the Utilities in both Rhode Island and Massachusetts. The cost for this work is something you are already paying for through the Energy Conservation charges on your utility bills. The cost of the work is heavily subsidized, sometimes as much as 100% for qualifying households. The audit (inspection) is free and is scheduled at your convenience. Our average weatherization project is about $3,800 and this work takes a one to two days to complete. The cost to the consumer is as low as $-0- in some cases.
Calyx is licensed by the States of Rhode Island and Massachusetts, and we are certified by the Building Performance Institute. We have Crew Chiefs and Team Members dedicated to tightening up the insulation in your home. We insulate about 500 homes a year, so your friends, family and neighbors have found this to be a sound investment.
This program is available to everyone. We do work in million-dollar homes, low-income single family and triple decker homes, condos, apartments and now commercial spaces and offices for Lawyers, CPAs and Doctors in converted single family homes.
