From Garage to Getaway

Something exciting is about to happen on a quiet street in Norton, Massachusetts—and it’s going to involve more than a few power tools, a whole lot of sawdust, and a very determined team of builders.

We’re talking about a full-blown transformation: a brand-new two-car garage, a cozy mudroom, and, sitting pretty on top, a master suite so luxurious it might make the rest of the house jealous.

The plans from SPM Design are crisp, detailed, and this dream is fresh off the design table and ready to become reality. While some might say “it’s just a garage addition,” this project is so much more. It’s a garage, sure, but also a sanctuary. A place to park your cars, store your tools, unload your groceries out of the rain, and maybe even escape from the kids for a few quiet moments.

We’ll be pouring a solid foundation, framing the addition, tying into the existing house, and giving the whole exterior a fresh look with new siding, composite decking, and vinyl windows that let in all the light without letting out your hard-earned heating and cooling. The electrical system will be updated to meet all the latest code requirements, including arc fault and GFI-protected outlets, and the plumbing will be as slick and modern as any spa retreat.

Inside, it’s all about the finishes. Oak floors will blend seamlessly where we patch into the existing hardwood. New carpeting will cushion every step up the stairs. A double vanity with undermount sinks, solid surface countertops, and gleaming new fixtures will round out a bathroom that’s equal parts functional and fabulous.

And just when you thought it couldn’t get any better, yes— The new master suite will be a slice of domestic heaven, complete with a bathroom that pulls out all the stops. There’s a soaking tub, a frameless glass shower, and heated floors that come with their own Wi-Fi-connected thermostat. That’s right—heated floors you can control from your phone. Because nothing says luxury like warmed toes.

And speaking of warm and fuzzy feelings, let’s talk safety for a second. In this case, we have to upgrade the house to meet the current fire safety code. The existing smoke and carbon monoxide detectors are battery powered only. That chirping you hear at 3am in the morning is because the batteries are running down. This lets you know to change the batteries before they die out and the detectors become useless. The new detectors are hard-wired to the electrical service in the house and are connected to each other. That way, if there was to be an issue in the garage, then the rest of the house is alerted. The detectors still have batteries (they will still chirp when low), so that if you lose power then you can still be safer. It’s a simple upgrade with big implications—and one we’re fully on board.

All in all, this build is a beautiful mix of comfort, code compliance, and curb appeal. It’s not just an addition—it’s an upgrade to everyday life. And while we can’t promise you won’t still stub your toe on a rogue laundry basket now and then, we can promise this: it’s going to be gorgeous, well-built, and meet every single requirement the Town of Norton throws our way.

Stay tuned. Construction begins soon! Until then, keep calm and remodel on!
